I deal with weight loss issues on a daily basis, I am a trainer at a local gym and see so many people walk in and out of gym every day, most come in with a Gung-Ho attitude determined to lose weight. The first thing they ask is for me to provide them with an exercise routine, some have performed some sort of exercise in their lifetime, some have never exercised, ever! I would say at least 40% of the people that come into the gym for the first time is for health reasons, high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes. The other 30% are overweight and want to lose weight, the rest for a variety of personal reasons.
Over the last decade out of those that visit the gym for the first time less than 3% ever achieve their goals, in fact, most quit after the first few weeks, others hang on for a few months and then mysteriously disappear. The sad thing is that any gains they did make over the few months, they end up losing, usually adding several more pounds surpassing what they weighed before joining the gym.
When it comes to weight loss it is not an easy task, the ultimate culprit is eating the wrong foods and lack of exercise, there are few physiological things that can contribute to weight gain, including thyroid problems, irregular hormone activity, hormone issues affect both men and women equally, for women it can be low estrogen or menopause and for men low testosterone can affect weight gain, if you do feel your weight issues are due to medical problems you should probably see your doctor, if not read on and I will tell you why you can’t lose weight.
Most people who are reasonably healthy wake up one day and decide their fat, usually because they stepped on a scale or their clothes no longer fit, this leads most people to a mad panic to do something about it, interestingly enough your clothes were gradually squeezing you a little more each day until the button popped or the zipper broke, this did not happen overnight! that’s not the way it works! Weight gain happens fast, but not that fast “it just seems that way”, so in order to get those clothes fitting again you need to reverse the process of what you did to gain weight to lose it.
